Functions of the department

MANDATE OF THE MECHANICAL ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT

The mandate of the mechanical department are as follows:

  1. HEAD OF DEPARTMENT:
  2. Supervision of the department day to day activities.
  3. In charge of the department’s staffing, resources and mentoring.
  4. Provides technical guidance and direction for the purpose of realizing efficiency.
  1. PRODUCTION:
  2. Maintains an effective working schedule.
  3. Ensures good product quality.
  4. Minimizes production cost while output is constant.
  5. Saddled with the responsibility of creating the finished product.

B(I). GENERAL ENGINEERING:

  1. Proper supervision of the mechanical aspect of building construction such as: Reinforcement, sewage system, crane system, plumbing, water system.
  2. Supervision of the mechanical aspect of tower system construction.
  3. Supervision of the mechanical aspect of road/bridge construction/maintenance such as: reinforcement pedestrian hand rails, drainage system.
  4. Welding/fabrication
  5. Structural fitting.

B(II). QUARRY OPERATIONS:

  1.  
  2. Management of the stone crushing quarry operations for high productivity.
  3. Maintains/repairs of the crushing machines.

  1. OPERATIONS:
  2. Monitoring of equipment at the ministry project site.
  3. Leasing to other government parastatal and monitoring their usage.
  4. Leasing to individuals and corporate bodies for revenue generation.
  1. MAINTENANCE:
  2. Concerned with the routine inspection/checks of the plant facilities to examine their conditions and check for needed repairs.
  3. Scheduling and execution of planned maintenance, installation of equipment and replacement of parts.

D(I) VEHICLE, PLANTS AND EQUIPMENT

  1. Ensure proper security of the ministry’s vehicle plant and equipment.
  2. Maintains and services vehicles and equipment’s for high productivity.
  3. Carries out overhaul where necessary.
  4. Supervision of ministry’s equipment, plants and vehicle while working on the building construction or road construction site.
